Conditioner comprising a Control Unit, an Electrode Unit and a sophisticated
Test Kit. WHERE IT FITS The Control Unit plugs into the electrical system of
your filter and the Electrode Unit is fitted into the lid of your Leaf Trap.
HOW IT WORKS -Whenever the filter is switched on, the Electronaut
automatically causes a direct electric current of +-17 volts and +-200
milliamps to flow between the electrodes. This current is completely safe
and will add nothing to your electricity account. -In non-technical terms,
the electric current splits the hydrogen atoms in the water
molecule giving them a positive charge and effectively provides the water
conditioning necessary for crystal clear, pure, healthly pool water.
Depending on the setting of Control Unit (ie: when set to copper), the
positive electrode releases a regulated amount of copper2 ions (Cu2++) into
the water to control algae and create an unfavourable breeding ground for
bacteria, whilst the negative electrode draws the metal impurities out of

Everyone who has a swimming pool has to regularly sanitise their pool water.
Don't, and the water will soon develop a green tinge, then turn cloudy and
ultimately go bottle green... almost impossible to rectify except at great
cost! Over the years, hundreds of hopeful inovators have introduced new
methods aimed at making the caring of pool water cheaper and less
inconvenient. Unfortunately, most of these attempts have been
under-financed, under-researched and/or over-hopeful... but very few have
lasted more than a year or two. To give you a clearer perspective of the
options avaible to you, we list below some of them together with a few that
have been, or are successful. CHLORINE Chlorine comes in various formats
including liquid, gas, granular and compressed (pill), and is marketed under
various brand names. In granular or compressed form, it is undoubtedly the
most popular chemical used for sanitising pool water. It is a strong,
powerful oxidiser, but it is this very quality that has sparked a world-wide
move to find meaningful alternatives (very similar to the current mood
regarding cigarettes.. everyone condemns them for their health hazards and
for being anti-social, and yet their sales continue to soar).
Medical reports regularly cite chlorine as being carcinogenic and linking it
to heart attacks, strokes and clogging of the arteries. It has been known
to cause red eyes, eyeball erosion and skin irritation, aggravate asthma and
sinus conditions and affect ear, nose and throat conditions. Chlorine
manufacturers admit the dangers and warn on their containers: --Poisonous
when swallowed --Eye contact should be avoided --Keep out of reach of
children --Liable to cause fire ALTERNATE CHEMICALS These come and go with
regular monotony. They are introduced to try and overcome the disadvantages
of chlorine but usually fail because: --The public are generally ignorant on
pool matters --Continuous advertising by the chlorine suppliers has created
the image that pools have to be run on chlorine (very much like a car can
only run on petrol) --Poor marketing on the part of the newer products (it
costs a lot to successfully launch a new product) Some names that have all
but disappeared include Baquacil, Baquashock, Aqua Cure, Aqua-H, Aquaswim 30
and Aqua Zone. ACID CONVERTERS Acid Converters produce chlorine gas by
passing an electric current through Hydrochloric Acid. They have not been
popular because their initial cost is high and the acid creates gases which
can explode if unchecked. SALT CONVERTERS Salt Converters convert coarse
salt (Sodium Chloride) into chlorine. The salt is usually added directly
into the swimming pool making the water salty to taste and swim in. They
start off popular because salt is inexepensive. However, the high cost of
replacing their cells every few years often leads to their demise. Some
brands you may remember but are seldom found today include the Watermaid,
Saltmate, Chlorplus factory, Autochlor, Saltee and Parachlor. IONISERS
Ionisers operate by passing a low voltage electric current between two
electrodes immersed in the pool water. The electrodes are generally made of
copper because this is the best algaecide known to man. Some versions
include silver and/or zinc which have bacterial and flocculant properties
but these are relatively heavy metals which tend to fall out of suspension
and stain the pool surfaces. The principles of ionisation are sound and
well known, and it is not particulary difficult or expensive to manufacture
a basic or crude ioniser. However, most have not been capable of sustaining
effective operation in varying water temperatures and conditions and have
been discarded by their inventors. These include the Aqua-safe, Clearpool
and Aqua-Probe to name but a few. OZONE GENERATORS Ozone generators work by
passing an electric current through oxygen to produce ozone which acts as an
oxidiser in much the same way as oxygen (O), except that it is more powerful
as it contains three parts of oxygen (03) instead of one. They are not
widely used as the equipment cost is high compared with alternate methods of
